Thread: Ragged edges on cutout

    Default Ragged edges on cutout

Whenever I do a cutout, like a plaque, the edges are ragged. It looks like the edge of a coin. Is this normal, or do I need to adjust something?
    Thanks for any insight.

A picture would be helpful! In Designer when you zoom in on the cut path how does that look?

Here are a couple of pics. The edge around the cutout is the same thing I get on the outside edge of a plaque when cutting all the way through.Click image for larger version.

How old is your bit? It looks like your cross cuts are good, but ripping is giving you issues. The grain of wood is much weaker when ripping due to the slack like appearance, which allows the bit to compress the grain fibers and move about easier. Harder woods hold up better as the grain does not compress as easy. Your using pine which tends to compress very easy, giving the fuzzier unclean look. A sharp bit is would be the answer here to allow it to cut with less resistances and vibration making a better cut.

Going back and reading your original question I see the answer is yes. In pine you see this very often due to what I stated before.
