Hi,
Once again I return to the well of knowledge hoping to quench my ignorance.
I have what I think is a pretty good PTN file. When I save it and then import it to use in designer, it doesn't come out as good.
Can anyone offer some advice?

Steve one big improvement would be to set the bit optimization to "best".
I also would prefer to put the pattern inside a recessed circle to make it stand out more.
Try this, I hope it helps.

If you have the probe, you can use pattern editor to clean up your image.
I assume you imported a jpeg or the like to get your ptn.
Zoom in close to your ptn, and rotate it until you're looking at its edge - you'll see some pretty bad spikey points (that's technical jargon) - that's the way your ptn will carve.
If yo don't have pattern editor, you can attach your image in its original form, and I'll take a stab at it.
You could try inverting the pattern. You won't get as much chip out that way.
Thanks for the hints everyone. I combined all of them - and my wife's suggestion to make it a little bigger on the wood - and it looks much better. Thanks.

i increased the board size to 11.25 x 11.25 with a carve region of .25
and left the pattern at 100. with the height at 999.
the bigger i went the better it looked
look at the attached and see if you like it
happy carving

ps
after my last supper carve tonight this is next on my list
I changed the board size to 7.25 x 7.25. Set the feathering to 0. Bit set to best. Increased the pattern to 6.5 x 6.5. Carve depth set to .12 and added a cut path to cut it out and it looks like a great pattern. Happy carving!!!
