According to my machine whisperer brother, only 3 things:
Inferior brush material
Overloaded motor
Motor going bad (lots of arcing)
We have CW whisperers on here, so I am sure they will chime in
I showed him my brushes, he thinks they look like Dewalts.. he's gonna check for me
I was already leaning toward a motor, and honestly may just change it out, as I have spares. But inferior brush material??? That doesnt sound quite kosher...

Inferior materials - carbon mixture off?? He left so I cannot ask.
I knew what you meant. I changed the brushes on the fly and I can hear myself talk in a normal voice, I am pretty sure the motor is shot...

A close up picture of the Armature would be nice... Might be a scratch in the copper or a damaged section making it into a "Planer"....
A brush with too soft a mixture of carbon would cause it.... but I can't believe it could slip into the CW Supply chain...
I agree, change the motor... but open the old one for pictures then send as a core to LHR and get another..
Also check the rear motor bearing.

I bet you find a shorted armature winding. Look for a couple of commutator strips burnt.
Agree to both. I was so hot when I first caught it I posted without investigating. I put 2 new brushes in and went back to carving and on 2 hours to finish the carve it wore away half the brush. Even though I might add. I'm done for today. This retired life doesn't feel very retired. I'll open it up tomorrow and check it out and add some pictures. I had one spare motor left so I installed that and ops checked. It pulsed well and that reminded me that the bad one didn't pulse when I did the pm the other day. And that motor has been sounding quiet for a while.

Glad you had a spare motor. I got one the other day.

Very busy for sure. It looks pretty wore down to me. And the bearing has a bit of play. But the rest of it looked good. If memory serves this was a rebuild from cw. So it lasted a couple years. And you guys know how I run them...
