With the introduction of the new 2+" carving bits ,
When will I be able to scan to that depth????????
Would we just be able to change the probe bit to a longer one???
Really interested in this...
I remember scanning much deeper than 0.8". Maybe 1.5"? Just how deep can we scan now. Anybody pushed this limit?
A former active member stated he has scanned up to 1.875" deep. Here's a link to that older thread:

If it is a gentle slope, you can scan deeper than the .8. You don't want a sudden drop off / rise or "cliff" that would hit the plastic housing of the probe.

So...?
...lets assume we have gentle slopes to scan...
how much deeper than .8 exactly?
I had asked:
Any chance the Carvewright folks could chime in here with the definitive answer?
We could each experiment and hopefully not damage anything but they must have some specifications, insight and guidance for us.
From what I have been able to do/determine is that the maximum depth of scan is/should be just less than the total reach of the scanning probe with the head raised to the highest point but still allowing the tip of the probe to reach the lowest point on the sled.
As Lynnfrwd stated you can be limited if the scan item has sharp drops or when the probe body travel is be lower than an area that would have the body come in contact with the object.

The specifications are 1" based on the length of the probe tip. Max height of sled rails are suggested to be 2.25". The insight is that I know, if it is a gentle slope, you can go higher than 1". The guidance is that you refer to the manual, but know that we often "trick" the machine, but at your own risk.

So the answer to the question is no.
The new deeper carving abilities of 3.xx does not bring any deeper scanning abilities than existed/exists in the free software.
Any scanning beyond 1 inch is beyond LHR specs and is the domain of TGIF.
