Since I am not the only one in my 30s I will throw it out there, 37 with 2 years left til I retire from the Marine Corps. I would say at that point I will be doing thjs full time but I already am. So maybe I will be doing this full time x2?

OMG what a pile of old fogies we are! (and one 39 year old woman at the bottom..Sharon??) I wonder if this is a bias sample of just us forumoholics or an indication of the actual age demographic of the whole population of CW owners. Are there so few young woodworkers?

I personally like to make and fix stuff. Metalsmith by trade and as you progress in the corps yoi start pushing paper more than metal. Thats my big interest in it.

Wood working is a costly hobby so most young people do not have the tools and or time to do it.

I think we need another post for the younger people not wanting to do woodworking or any skilled craft they haven't got the drive that we had when we were younger they would rather make minimum wage or let the government take care of them. It's downright sad!!!! I consider myself a builder and love the fact that there is nothing that I can't make or fix Instead of paying someone else to do it.

Amen weld. Not alot of people build things anymore and they find its simpler to buy it rather than make it. I enjoy it. Definitely a dying breed, but I tell you this...my 2 boys are learning how to build. Whether they like it or not. I have 3 machines now and unfortunately for them I need all the help I can get. With this being full time and still active duty I have no time for anything.

Just voted, resulted in a 'You've already voted' response. Guess the memory fits me into the apropriate age range. Didn't obviously post anything when I visited before so I'll add it now. Retired 10 yrs ago, enjoying every minute of it. Did some additions and remodeling for kids , my mother, and at home. Then got bored and went back to part time work just to keep me on a schedule(plus some $$ for my hobbies) Love the forum, the willingness of so many to share amazes me, especially those who have the expertise in making patterns. Without their expertise the carver would lose a lot of its value for me.
Again, my thanks to all members for their expertise, experience, and opinions.
