Thread: My first picture carving.

    Default My first picture carving.

Taking the info I've gathered from other posts, I went out and bought some 1/4" acrylic and tried a picture carving today.

First, the piece wasn't actually 1/4". It was a little shy so I taped it to a 1/4" ply backer. Well..... that helped bring it up to height but the sensor couldn't "see" the acrylics edges. I had to frame it with masking tape.

Ok..... it was off and carving.

WOOPS.... forgot to invert the image.

Second try was much better. I think I'm going to try corian next time though. This acrylic didn't seem to carve as well as others that I've seen and it may be due to the material.

    Anyway..... Here's the results.

Not sure if its my screen, but that looks really dark. I can see the baby but can't make much out. Could you try with some lighting somewhere, maybe behind it?

Excellent work. The detail and shading really come out.

Now if we can get a good, reliable method for putting pictures on wood.

wow, i really like the way that came out. it's a little dark, but it being on plastic makes that ok in my book.

i have a few scrap pieces of lexan lying around, after seeing how your came out, i think i will try some in the near future.
