Default Cut path on Basic Composition

Hey Yall, Hope everyone is doing well. I'm trying to use one of the compositions from the basic list in Designer. (specifically, the one with the shell in the middle).... When I try to outline the pattern, to assign a cutpath, It is giving me 2 seperate paths. One is 99% of the entire pattern, the other is the single leaf on the very far left hand side. I have tried unsucessfully to resolve this, but no luck. Any suggestions?

    Thanks Chuck

That's one of those patterns that isn't setup well to be cut out. The larger you make it the more paths you'll get and I see no way to get it to make 1 continuous path all the way around the pattern.

I think the only option is to manually cut it out with a scrollsaw or something similar.

    Default cutpaths

Not sure if this is the one you want, Just select the path that is 99% and delete the others

Another tip on patterns that don't outline the perimeter properly (which is very rare, by the way):

If you can't get a continous outline around the perimeter of a pattern, try rotating the pattern by 1°. For some reason this will "fix" the problem and the pattern will then allow a continuous outline to be formed.

The 1° tilt is usually not noticable and won't adversely affect your layout. As far as why the problem occurs every now and then, no one seems to know for sure.

Nice tip. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to help the Crest 01 pattern in Basic>Compositions.

    Chuck,

One thing you could do is go ahead a cut it as-is, then manually cut out the "extra" leaf on the right side so it matches the left side...or, cut a leaf manually and glue it to the left side to match the right! Crude workaround, but effective.

    Hi Chuck,

Yes, delete the leaf and any other undesired outlines.

Glad to help when I am able! Thank you for the compliment on the sleigh. I finished the illustrated tutorial and emailed all the files for the project to LHR/CarveWright today!
