I posted this a while back.

I now use 180 grit, and make them two to three inches I use air, they need to run at high speed. A drill is too slow.
Thank you for the info. Got more than I could ever hope for!

    Bob,

I entered this post in the Techniques thread so the files would not be lost.

Here are some photos of the way I make my flap sanders now. I purchased my Air Die Grinders from HarborFreight.com they were on sale for about $7.00.

The roll I received was two inches wide and 365 yards long, 180 grit, more sandpaper then I will ever use.

Sanders 2.5 to 3 inches work best for me. They last a long time. After they get broken in they sand and buff the carvings, they need to spin at high speed. The clean up only takes a few minutes.

I've Bought both 1/4" and 3/8" shank Arbors for my Flap Sanders,
and made a few with different size grits (150, 220, 320) for different sanding stages.

You can find them a the WoodCraft or Rockler Stores, also most Hardware stores, Lowe's, Home Depot, or Big Box Stores.

I use them on my Sand Flee Power Take-Off, Drill Press, Air Die Grinders, or 36" Flex Extension.
