Default Finally made a few sleds

    Hi, everyone I back.
Oh I never left, I still log on every day and check out the latest posts and replies.
I finally built a couple of sleds to carve small pieces so I don't waste material.
I uploaded a few of the pictures.
    One is built with 3/4" MDF 14 1/2" wide x 24". I used t-nuts spaced 2" apart.
with end pieces 5" each. I know this is bigger than needed (3 1/2" per side) but it works. I also built a second sled out of 1/2" plywood that is a little longer. Both sleds have 2 sets of end pieces that are 1/2" and 3/4" depending on the thickness of the materrial to carve.
They are not fancy or expensive but they work fine.

    Enjoy..

How does the machine know not to measure the sled when it goes through its set up? Or does it and you just have to put in the size of the sled in the software?

    Default sled measurements

    Aaron B,

The machine measures the board just like any other project.
It looks at the width first and then the length which includes the sleds end pieces.
If your sensor is working right it will see the ends and add that distance to the project, then it will ask you if you want it to center it on the length and you answer yes.

Note: You must remember to add the thickness of your sled to the projects board settings.

    Hope I answered your question?

    Default Just an idea....

I like your design - simple (something I can handle)

If those end pieces were made out of 1/4" stock, could you stack two or three (or four) on top of one another to get to your thickness? If so, seems like a great way to save the thicker stock.

    Default sleds

    cnsranch,

You could do that. But I just built 2 sets that were 1/2" and 3/4" thick.
Those two sizes are the majority of the thickness of the stock I use.

    Default While we're at it...

    David - teach me something...

How did you go about posting a pic that's as big as it is, and gives me the ability to zoom it? I've posted one or two that are larger, most are small, and I don't have a clue as to what I did in either case.

    Thanks

    Default Pictures

Well, let's see if I can explain it.

1.) I create a file on the desktop and copy the pictures from the memory card to the file.

2.) I open the file and grab one or all of the files then hit email button at the top of the file page. It in turn opens a edit pull down to change the file size (small, medium, large, as is). This then opens your default email tool and sends the resized photos to an attachment in the new email.

Note: When I started the files were all ~ 900kb you need to resize them to less than 117kb.

3.) Next I copy them back to the file I created on my desk top, were they are resized. The computer will rename them with a (2) after the file name.

4.) then I just log on to the forum hit post, manage attachments, browse, find the file on my desk top then I upload the files.

Hope I made this clear enough. I'm not at home, I'm at work and I work on a different work station that uses a different operating system so I might have missed a step because I am trying to work from memory.

But it is nice to be able to zoom and pan around the pictures.
