    Wink Bad Day Fishing

A little something for a great friend. He liked it so much he talked me into making it a standard item to sell. Hmmmm, wonder if all the bait & tackle shops around my area might like this one?

We'll see....I have 5 more of them in the finish stage now.

    Default Finish

    3/4" yellow pine.
The fish and wheel are first coated with a golden oak Poly Shade (Minwax). After that dries I did the rest of it with 2 coats of Red Mahogany Stain. Then the letters are done with a gold leaf pen and the the whole deal is coated with a clear gloss poly (sprayed).

The golden oak poly prevents the fish and wheel from soaking up the red mahogany stain but after wiping it off lightly, leaves a few darker highlights on them.

    Chris,
That is great. I really like the font. Which one is it?

One of, if not my absolute favorite ones.

    Monotype Corsiva.

Works great in any text style (raster, outline, centerline). This one is Raster with a 7 point space and bold. Depending on how tall I make them, I'll use a medium draft as well.

Really nice Chris, I like that way this came out. Looking at the piece..made me wonder if you could carve the fish, wheel and lettering deep enough so you could put a piece of plexi over it and handles on the sides to maybe make this MPC file or one like it into a serving tray...Hummmm...what do you think...The inner edge looks like it has a small edge type shelf that would seat a piece of plexi really well as long as the carving were below it in depth....just food for thought...might make nice x-mas gifts for all those relatives...

    Red face Thanks Folks

Absolutely Lin. Most any carving in 3/4" or thicker can be done to handle a glass insert. In fact, Glass top coffee and end tables are on my to do list.

This particular one is only 3/8" deep at the regions base and the carvings are at full height. If I went to a 1/2" deep and about 75 (or so) in height, it would accommodate a 1/4" thick piece. I do this with my coasters.

Al, Thanks buddy. Coming from you that means a lot. Mine aren't nicer though, just a different "flavor" than yours. The beauty is, the customers around us get a wider variety from which to choose so we all win.
