Here's a quick sign for my Dad's business-- The wood was a pleasant suprise from a gnarled, dirty, and encrusted length of african mahogany. I used a wire brush to clean it off (the board is over 7 feet long, 13 inches wide, and is 4/4) this sign was made from the cutoff when I removed a piece that was starting to crack towards the middle at a fracture. After it cleaned up, a wonderfully swirling grain pattern was revealed.
Anyway, the carve was a 25 minute carve all done with centerline text (the picture and cross are dingbats and were done at his request)
