    Default My Latest project

    Hi All

I was commissioned to do and art piece in the form of a leather bound book for a presentation Ceremony this week.
The pages of the 8” x 10” book were made up of two layers or 5/8” plywood with the edges concaved, then wire wheeled to simulate individual pages, sealed and sprayer with gold metallic latex paint. The front and back of the book where ¼” Tempered Masonite, sanded round at the edges to give them a puffy leather appearance after they were sealed along with the back binding which was carved on a Sled from block of Hard Maple. Gold latex was sprayed into the CarveWright Centerline text on the cover and the open grain of the Masonite to produce a burnished hand rubbed look. Finally all where assembled and received several coats of top coat sealer, being the book will never be opened, only displayed on a Plexiglas Stand cut out on my CC Machine.
The Text on the front of the book reads (It’s In the Library) a phrase often used by the Recipient, in the same way We say read the Manual or use the Forums Search Option.

Very well made. Brushing the wood to simulate pages of the bood looks great. I also especially like the feathering of paint outside the Title Frame.

Very nice. Has anyone tried to make a lettering, image press to use with thin wet leather? You know, I think that might work.

    Ken,

That is an excellent simulation. Very well done and very imaginative!

    Thumbs up

    Ken,

Very "Neet / Cool" project. Now that's on my list to do... Hope it comes out half as good as yours...

    Thanks all,

It was a fun project, and kind of neat finding another way to incorporate
the machine, in to my daily work.

I know I don't have your expertise Bob but I would think you would have to have something to hold that leather down...?

    Default Here's Another

    Hi All,

Here’s another project using my CC machine to combine two of my Hobbies,
Wood Carving and Wood block printing.
Barb asked me to carve some well known faces in a highly stylized manner,
for one of her Quilting Square projects.
Here are a few of the preliminary results with out sitting up my block press.
Carved with my CC Machine – 1/2 or 3/4 ” MDF, 1/16” tapered ball nose Carving Bit, .062 to .125 depth, “0” Feathering.

The big "E" brain, of course, but aren't the other two, James Dean and the "King" ? I'd think your wife's group will well agree that those will be a great hit.
