    Default Edging

    Thanks Doug, Floyd, and Ken,

The books exist to fill the shelf, they are just waiting for the decision as to how to keep them from interfering with the support.

I used a set of edging bits on all exposed plywood edges, both 3/4" and 1/2" that worked surprisingly well.
Attached is a picture of the female bit (used on the plywood); I didn't take a picture of the male bit.
The other picture is of an unsanded example.

Ken looking good, now how long will the slide out shelf be able to slide out before being filled with books too?

    Eddie,

It needs to be closed unless we want to use it as a door-stop.
Actually it just serves as a place to lay out a book to check the contents before taking it into the kitchen.

Default Why the need for the slide-out shelf

Finally completed the covers for the mechanisms so that books don't interfere.
My earlier post led to confusion as to the use of the shelf, this should explain it better.

Obviously my wife will be useing it since it is a little high for me.
I should have photoshopped a little hair on the top of my head

Pictures: before and after mounting a cover to keep books from interfering and a book being examined.

Default I have not added to this thread in awhile

After Christmas last year, I saw this thread and my wife SUGGESTED that I make this for my step-daughter.
We had just started drawing-names for this year and I drew Krystal's name.

It took me way too long to complete it because it scared the ... out of me, there was too many places for
a one-handed guy to ruin it, especially with the hinges I wanted to use and the ends I wanted to add.

Finally got it finished - not much sun these past few days, but I wanted to get the pictures done.

I changed the center bow from the original mpc to be more like the sketch; here are some construction photos.
I had my wife help with the routing for the ribbon because I did not think I could keep it straight enough with one hand.
The center-bow was sanded to a square end to give me more area to glue (hard to see in the picture).

    Thank you for your comments.

Sharon, I wish you were here when I was finishing it. I tried to pull the grain with a little dye, still don't know what I'm doing with finishing.
