Default Jewlery box and more projects by Doc Wheeler

I guess I'd better post a picture or two.
The jewelry box is very similar to Britt Yenne's and the oak house number is similar to another design that was posted.
The jewelry box, with legs and writing on the bottom, is cherry with 8 applications of oil/poly/thinner. I also faintly included my initials and year on the back.
It seems as though I was casting a shadow on the right sides of the box.

    Ken,

Nice work on the Jewery box. Here are some photos of a Jelwery box I just finished for my daughter-in-law. It is made of OAK. One coat of sanding sealer and two coats of poly-urathane.

The inside of the lid has a small version of the top of the lid painted and glued to the underside.

    regards,

    Ken R

    Default Wow!

That is some fine work! I have a request to place a name on the top of a cribbage box. It has a small area (2-1/2" X 7" which will have the person's name on one line and "cribbage master" on the second. The box is assembled and I can't take the lid off my removing the hinges.

Is it possible (with a sled device) to engrave the lid with a centerline font with the lid attached? The overall height of the box is about 5" wide X 12" long.

I would appreciate any ideas you might have. I can only hope that my project will look as good as yours.

You gave the width and length of the box, but not the height. Remember that the height limit is 5" max and since you'd have to use a sled, that would, of course, include that height in addition to that of the box.

    jspringertx,
Yes you can achieve what you are wanting to do by using a sled to fixture the part, so long as the part is less than 5" tall including the sled. Depending on whether the top of the part is flat or not, you may need to stop the machine when it is finding the top with the bit, and jog to a location that is at the level you wish to engrave with the centerline text. Since this is a finished peice, I would highly reccomend practicing your text to size on a scrap piece first.

We would love to see a picture when you are done!

    Happy carving!
