    Default Big Ask for Oscar

Have a teen age granddaughter who actually asked me to teach her to play chess. First and only request for chess from any of them and was a total surprise. Has followed up and now makes me wish I had worked harder at it. Anyway, had a wild idea of making her a chess set and board. Board is no problem but the pieces are out of my realm. Don't have the rotary jig but wonder if a set could be made using two-sided carves? A lot of pieces for a set but many of them are duplicates. Willing to contribute to your wood fund if you could come up with something.
Thanks for your feedback, Rick H

I made a set many years ago but I've never tried carving them. If they need to be modified or don't work let me know.

My initial thought is its possible to do but a definite challenge. They were made with designer 2 so let me know they need to be in designer 1.

Will be giving them a try. Looks like a winner from the pic, hope to make a run soon, not sure where the time goes but definitely 'fleeting' as the song says.
I run in ver 1 and ver 3 so should be ok.
    Thank you so much.

Awesome. Ver3 will be able to open the files.

Let me know if they do need to be changed or redone. I never carved them so don't know if they have any issues or how well they work.

    Default Chess set attemp

Three attempts, double sided and 2 single sided. Going to try some more ideas. Really making me think.
Oscar, I sent you a PM.
    Thx.

I see. The software is shifting everything to the base of the carve. From the results, I believe the design is just not a got match for this type of carve. You can adjust it if you had the stl add on but as is, would be super finicky to get a perfect circle base.

Let me see if I can design a new pattern in the next few days. Unfortunately, I have a few projects lining up.

I believe the issue arose due to my patterns being 1.5" wide and when carving the files at .7" for the two piece 1.4" they compressed. And due to the thinness of the design it just made them too thin.

I am going to try a redesign the models so the models are 1.4" and will hopefully look better when carved as a two half carve.

Sounds like you've put some thought into it. Don't rush, no deadline on this end, just something in my head. Greatly appreciate the originals let alone your time to modify them.
    Thx, Rick

Re-did another chess set from scratch. They are a little thicker so they have a little bit more meat on the bone. I still have to convert them to ptn but this is what they look like as a 3d rendered image.

I have not carved them so don't know if there are any issues.

The bases are 1.4" round so if carved at .7" they should work a little better. Due to the curvature of the 1/16" ball nose bit, some sanding and refining will be required.

P.S. added image of the Carvewright pattern version.
