Repairing a dead card reader. Someone posted on the Facebook group last week about their card reader not working. They were close to me so I asked them to send it over so I could have a look. In all these years I've never had occasion to take mine apart What I found is that the USB cable was pinched right where it entered the plastic housing. This is not an uncommon type of failure on anything that has a cord coming out if it. The only thing you can do to try and prevent it is to not try and bend the cord sharply or push the reader up against something (against the cord.) If you are handy with a soldering iron it is a fairly easy repair aside from working with the small size of the wires. In comparison they are actually a good size for USB wires though, some cables I have seen make use of 28AWG wires which is downright microscopic.
