Default DECEMBER 2018 Project of the Month - "Retro TV Remote Caddy"!

    Hello,

This Retro TV Remote Caddy is a great home for your remote controls! This project was inspired by my wife’s desire to clean up the “remote clutter” in the TV room! Enjoy this project for yourself, for sale at Craft Shows or to give away as gifts to your “remote-clutter” challenged friends and relatives!

The project uses just the 1/16" Carving Bit and the 1/8" Cutting Bit. No other bits are required. Finished dimensions are about: 5.5" x 5.5" x 8" tall (including antennae).

    Main items you will need:

    1) The Project Files (included):
    • TV_Layout.mpc
    • Side_Panels.mpc*

    2) Boards with the following dimensions:
    TV Layout board: 0.75" x 11" x 20"
    *Side Panel board: 0.5" x 5.5" x 16.5"

NOTE: Do not use boards that are smaller than specified above unless using an appropriate jig.

*I recommend you cut the two Side Panels using a table or chop saw instead of using the mpc. They are just simple rectangles measuring: 0.5" x 4.125" W x 4.625" T

    3) Four self-stick silicon or cork pads, and four 0.25" dowel buttons, two 0.1875" dia. dowels or Tie Rack Pegs

    4) A 0.1875" dia. drill bit, sandpaper, glue, stain and/or paint and clear finish

    5) A Dremel-type rotary tool with assorted abrasive attachments to aid the sanding process. A small belt sander can help speed up sanding/surface prep.

Apply the finish of your choice. Here’s what I used on the sample Retro TV Remote Caddy made from Select Pine:

    • Applied two coats thinned Bulls Eye SealCoat
(50/50 SealCoat and denatured alcohol). Sanded when dry.

    • Applied light coats Krylon Clear Gloss, then Flat to seal the surface. Sanded lightly when dry.

    • Applied light brown acrylic craft paint to the TV screen bezel, the lower “grill” and the rabbit ear antenna hump.

    • Several light coats Krylon Clear Satin overall.

    • Glued in the Tie Rack wooden “ antennae” Pegs
