Thread: run time for cut brushes before needing to be replaced

  1. Default run time for cut brushes before needing to be replaced

what is the average hours of usage before you have to change cut motor brushes? I had 44 hours on carver and have had to replace the factory issued brushes and now after another 44 hours, the replacement brushes have worn down. Is this to be expected?

Normal time should be between 200 and 250 hours. How wore down are yours?

I believe LHR had a bad batch of brushes.... Based on seeing posts like yours....

It could also be a bad armature. Check the condition of the commutator for signs of extreme arcing.

What do the worn brushes look like? Are they worn down smooth? Are they pitted at all or discolored?

Mugsowner, the brushes will wear on the length, speaking from the side where the copper wire and spring is to the side that goes into the housing and seats against the armature. They are about 1/2" long new. Please don't let them get down to the copper wire as it will cause damage to the armature / commutator. Since they are made of carbon they are black or dark grey. Hope this helps ya.

I was just asking, as this could help determine what am be causing the early brush failure.
