Thread: Almost Done Dog Gone

  1. Default Almost Done Dog Gone

A friend asked for 3 identical plaques. So I figured save wood and time since all 3 were the same, I put them all on a single board 10 inch x 62. At compiling it said 8 hours for the carve. No big deal, I'll be in the shop all day anyway. 6 hours to actually carve the 3 without lettering. I switched to the 90 degree bit when prompted. The lettering got half way through one plaque only and I get X axis stall. Of course, what else can I expect. Should of done all 3 separate but I really thought I was doing something good.

So now, the board is in the machine and I'm afraid to move it if there is a chance I can salvage this project.

Any ideas, run the project over again on the same board it will carve over again and just carve through the motions then do the lettering.

Dogs, I hate it when I have 6 ft of expensive wood and it is useless without the text.

    Any ideas......Help

Ed, maybe you could remove the board and cut them to correct size and make a temp sled and just do the text with the carvings hidden

Do you think I can go to the original computer layout, hide the carvings, and save it, then run again. Would it want to carve the depth and remove the carving that is there. I just don't know, I still think there should be a Resume function on the machine. I'm sure we would all benefit from that. I have so many half done carves because of machine malfunctions.

Let me know if you think the hide thing and recarve would work without destroying the already finished carving.

    Thanks

Yes you can go back to your original project and original length, high lite the carvings, then do hide, save the project on your card and it will only see the text on the project, it should set up as usual and should go straight to the text.
I use this all the time with multiple carvings in one project same text.

It was about to carve through the pattern, so I raised the cover a put in place a shorter bit that does not reach the wood. So I will let run through the sequence and put on the 90 bit in 6 hours.

I found the reason for the x stall. The red handle under the front right side that tightens something, that I didn't ever use, fell out and wedge in the roller.

I never use that red lock thing, think I should put it back on.

That red handle locks the head from moving up or down. I never use it and read on another post that most of us don't use it either. Good luck Ed.

I did it. Put the Hide on the very long project, uploaded again. Went through the bit setup on the machine, after set up, I put the short 60 bit in place of the 1 16 and let the project Air Carve for 6 hours, then at the change of bits installed the right one. The CW went over the letters it previously carved and it was flawless, exactly over them, then went on to carve the new text it didn't get due to the x axis stall. It all worked out and didn't waste my wormy maple carving. Of course the operation took 18 hours.

Guys, check that red handle locking jigger thingy. It will apparently work loose, fall out and jam the machine. Be sure it in tight. I took mine off and left it off. Never used it, never had a problem.

Thanks for all the help from you guys.
