Default Need to carve a slant in an oval

Not sure if the CW can do this, but I am making a gun rack and want the butts of the guns to sit in a carved shape that would be 1/4" deep at one end and 1 3/4" deep at the other. Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated...Click image for larger version.

You're going to need the long carving bit to go that deep, and Designer Pro to support the bit. Designer Pro also has the Extrude tool which will allow you to put that slant in the carved area.

I don't see why you couldn't do this but depends on what add-ons you have and which designer software you have. The 1/8 long carving bit can carve up to 2.125 inches.

I believe the 3d add-on should be able to do this. I don't have this so don't know the details.

I did a quick test pattern as a feasibility test. I do not recommend using this due to the time to carve but it does show its possible using the 1/8 long carving bit, carvetight spindle, designer 2 and up.

My system is saying about 50 minutes just to carve this in raster (not the way to do it). I am sure there are many other ways to do this which are way better.

Edit: Dick beat me to it. What he said.

The extrude comes with the 3D suite and I think will work even with the basic designer, but the long bit requires the Pro, so your will need both. If you get the Pro designer, someone can make you a pattern using the 3D package.

Thanks everyone. I do have the 3D suite and the long bit. I was able to get a rectangle to work using the tilt tool, but it won't work on and Oval. I guess I will have to read up on the extrude tool...

Thank you, Steve. That was very helpful. I will use it as a guide and learn how to build one. Much appreciated...

Check your vertices on the oval figure to make sure it is closed, click on: View, Toggle non-end points,

Just finished a gun cabinet for my son in law. I placed a circle on top of the rectangular end. Deselect and then used archive and line connect to create a single pattern. Tilt worked on the total figure.
