Default JUNE 2018 Project of the Month - The "Made In America" Frame!

The “Made In America Frame” is a patriotic-themed project for displaying a 5x7 photo of your “Made in America” family!

This project was created in the Designer Pro software, then a PTN (CarveWright pattern) was made from the Pro layout for compatibility with Designer Basic software users! I have included BOTH file versions. (The Pro version can be edited and customized if you own the Designer Pro software.) The project uses just the 1/16" Carving Bit and the 1/8" Cutting Bit. No other bits are required.

    Main items you will need:

    1) The Project File(s) (included)*:
    • Made_In_America_Frame_Basic.mpc
    • Made_In_America_Frame_Pro.mpc
(*use whichever file is compatible with your Designer software - Basic or Pro)

    2) Board(s) with the following dimensions: 0.75" x 11" x 23"

NOTE: Do not use boards that are smaller than specified above unless using an appropriate jig.

    3) Two screw eyes, natural jute twine to hang the frame (or other hanging method of your choice), glazier points, sheet of medium-thick cardboard for photo backing, clear plastic sheet, a 5" x 7" photo

    4) Sandpaper, stain and/or paint and clear finish

    5) A Dremel-type rotary tool with assorted sanding wheels and bits to sand small details. Optional tools: a small bench top belt sander

Apply the finish of your choice.
Here’s what I used on the sample made from Select Pine:

    • 2 coats of thinned Bulls Eye SealCoat. Sanded again.
    (50/50 sealer and denatured alcohol)

    • Light coats of Krylon Clear (flat) to seal

    • Painted letters and stars with red, white and blue acrylic craft paint.
Stripes painted with thinned red acrylic craft paint as a “stain”.

    • Light coats of Krylon Clear (flat) spray to seal

•Applied thinned dark brown craft paint as a glaze
(brushed on and wiped off most of it)

    • Several light coats of Krylon Clear (satin) spray
