Thread: Software vs Firmware

    Default Software vs Firmware

Help me understand please. I know there's a difference between software and firmware. However, my firmware is still the 1.88. Can I upgrade to the 3.1 firmware without upgrading to the Designer 3 software?

I do intend on doing Designer 3 anyway...but wondered if some of my issues will be resolved with a firmware update.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!!

Yes you can use the updated firmware with a prior version of the software. http://www.carvewright.com/firmware-update/

The software is the Designer. Firmware is the machine code on the data card. To update the firmware, make sure the data reader is plugged into a USB port then select "flash manager" from the file menu. In the flash manager, click on the firmware button and then the "latest firmware" button. All firmware is backwards compatible with all versions of the Designer.

    And you followed the instructions?
Please follow the instructions below to load the new firmware to your memory card.

    • Open the CarveWright Designer software, and plug the memory card into the USB programmer.
    • Select “Flash Manager” from the “File” menu.
    • The “Flash Manager” dialog box will appear. Click on the “Firmware” button.
    • A new window will appear giving you three prompts: Latest Firmware, Choose, and Cancel. Select “Choose”.
    • In the window that opens, browse to the location where you saved the file. Select it and press Open. The software will load the customized firmware to your memory card.

I am not sure what would be the issue with that.
