Default JANUARY 2018 Project of the Month - Home is Where the Heart is!

    Hello,

This project features a popular “stacked text” style decorative wall plaque for your home or as a gift or craft item to sell! The project can be used as a reference for creating your own stacked text signs and plaques by observing the settings used for the text layers.

The project uses just the 1/16" Carving Bit and the 1/8" Cutting Bit. No other bits are required. The finished dimensions are approximately: 0.75" thick x 9" tall x 18" long

    Main items you will need:

    1) The Project Files (included):

    • Home_Heart.mpc

    2) Board with the following dimensions: 0.75" x 11" x 25.5"

NOTE: Do not use boards that are smaller than specified above unless using an appropriate jig. Larger boards are fine.

    3) Two small eye hooks, natural jute twine to hang the plaque (or other hanger of your choice)

    4) The fonts used in the project are: Rockwell and Edwardian Script ITC
You’ll need to install them if they are not already on your system. (see page 5)

    5) Sandpaper, glue, stain and/or paint and clear finish

    6) A Dremel-type rotary tool with assorted sanding wheels and bits to sand small details. A small belt sander is also handy to speed up finishing preparation.

Apply your choice of finish. Stacked/layered text usually looks best when the layers of text are finished with contrasting colors. This makes the plaque lettering more legible, as well as more attractive overall. You can use small brushes, paint pens or a combination of both, to paint the text and other elements of the plaque.

Here’s what I used on the plaque sample made from Select Pine:
    • One coat of thinned Bulls Eye SealCoat (50/50 sealer and denatured alcohol)

    • Sanded again to remove stiffened fuzzies

    •Applied Rust-Oleum Golden Mahogany stain

    • 2 coats of Krylon Clear Acrylic (flat) spray to seal

    • Painted select portions of the plaque with craft paints and paint pens

    • Several light coats of Clear Acrylic (flat) spray

    Hi,

It should be available from the CarveWright Pattern/Project Depot in a day or two. Thanks for asking!

If I get the POM subscription now, will it include this project?

    Michael,

I was carving this project and the "is where the" is not coming out. I am attaching a pic so as you can see what I mean. I noticed the height is set to 70. Should I increase it so it comes out better?
