Default DECEMBER 2017 Project of the Month - Ship's Wheel Clock!

    Hello,

Take the helm with this miniature Ship’s Wheel Clock! This nautical-themed clock will make a nice addition to your own decor, or as a gift or craft item to sell.

The project uses just the 1/16" Carving Bit and the 1/8" Cutting Bit. No other bits are required.

The finished dimensions are about 10" diameter x 1.25" thick.

    Main items you will need:

    1) The Project Files (included):

    • Ship_Wheel_FRONT.mpc
    • Ship_Wheel_REAR.mpc

    2) Boards with the following dimensions:

    FRONT: 0.75" x 11" x 18"
    REAR: 0.75" x 9" x 15"

NOTE: Do not use boards that are smaller than specified above unless using an appropriate jig. Larger boards are fine.

    3) Eighteen 0.25" dowel buttons, a 3.5" clock insert (we used model #15452 from http://www.klockit.com), brass triangle ring hanger

    4) Sandpaper, glue, stain and/or paint and clear finish

    5) A Dremel-type rotary tool with assorted sanding wheels and bits to sand small details. A spindle sander and small belt sander are also handy to speed up preparation for finishing.

Apply the finish of your choice. Here’s what I used on the sample Ship's Wheel Clock made from Select Pine:

    • Applied Rustoleum Golden Mahogany stain to the wheel (I left the dowel buttons their natural color and glued them in after staining the wheel)
    • Several light coats Krylon Clear Acrylic overall

Every one has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film.
