    I think that the bit optimization tool just changes the step-over for the selected carving bit. Not applicable in all cases but in most.

    Hi Steve,

    The stepover amount is determined by the Quality setting chosen when uploading to the Memory Card.

    Here are the approximate stepover percentages:

    Draft: 16.6%
    Normal: 12.5%
    Best: 8.3%
    Optimal: 6.2%

    Thanks, Floyd, Michael, Dick and Steve for the input. I have only done a couple pierced carves and never deep ones, so wasn't able to give Peter the answer he needed. I sure love this forum for quick help a person can receive.
