    Default Dome surface question

I want to cut a inverted dome in the surface of a piece. The depth of the dome needs to be 0.459" deep. The attached image file shows, in cross section, what I want to do. This will give it a radius of 1.75"

My attached designer project shows this piece in the center. As you can see from this file, it looks like the sides are .459" deep.

Is there a way to make the dome like it want it?

draw a circle 1.75 radis then use the puffing tool to set the depth and then invert it .

Change the height to 500 and the sides will come up. It will not exactly be a circle however. I think the program makes parabolic surfaces. If you want a real circle, you have to use extrude.

That worked. Over that small length, it may not make a difference. But, I can seem to find a way to use extrude. Seems like you would need to make a circle or arc on the side, set the radius or diameter, define the center point, and cut through sideways. I designed this using Solidworks, so switching between it and CW Designer often sends me down the wrong path, since they almost work opposite of each other.

I'm not sure what you mean. Where is the puffing tool? Wouldn't that make the carving area circular?

Extrude is a 3d tool add on. Not much good if you do not have it.

No, I don't have it. That explains why I couldn't find it.

Try this. I made it into a pattern

That looks great. How on earth did you make it into a pattern?

Also, I made a mistake. The center piece with your rounded pattern needs to be rotated 90 degrees. When I select the entire thing, it won't let me rotate it 90 degrees...Why is that?

The pattern rotates. The cutout will not. Remove the size constraints and, by typing in the size boxes, swap the sizes.

(The 3d tools can be used to make patterns. After the extrude is used, I just use make pattern.)
