There are several methods in creating patterns. There is picture manipulation to import as an image into the designer software. That can be done with 2d graphics programs. There are stand alone software that can process the image for normal map creation. Shadermap software does that and is an inexpensive solution. There is also 3d graphics software that you can export to an STL object for import into designer (you need the STL add-on for that). You can also create normal maps from the 3d objects to import as images.

It all depends on what final result you are looking for.

My favorite method is 3d object creation to STl export but I use all the different methods in my pattern creation pipeline.

A pattern like that would usually take me 2-3 hours to build the 3d model or you can take 5 minutes to run it through Shadermap. I have Shadermap and I also use it as well.

Not sure if the link will work. Try checking the "Ask Bud" channel on youtube, there are a lot of great video tutorials he made.

John, I'll give a try. I'll have to see how it comes out.

Enclosed is my attempt at it. As you can tell not always easy or fast to create patterns. The model took me 3 hours to make and another 30 minutes tweaking.

John, you are welcome and nothing. It is far from perfect. Use small to medium draft due to all the thin parts. Bigger and deeper is better for detail but it has to fit your design so you may have to play with height and depth. I hope it works for you and good luck on the project.

    Regards,
    Oscar
