Thread: Machine carving to deep

    Default Machine carving to deep

Does anyone have any idea why my machine is carving to deep? I have checked the depth I set on the pattern, .125 but it will carve thru a 3/4 inch board from side to side.
Any help or idea will be appreciated.
    thanks

It's going to be all about the Z.....

Could be a bad FFC Cable and the head is not getting the retract signal.

Could be black dust in the Z Encoder or even a loose Z Encoder disk.

Could be dirty Z Rails preventing the head from lifting or even dirt in the Z Belt cogs.

Could be a loose bit dropping...

    Thanks Al,
I guess I should have given more details. The carvings starts out ok but after a couple of minutes it starts carving a straight line from side to side and will go thru the board. I just went thru the machine and cleaned and lubed it. I did not check the Z Encoder, was in aware of it. I will pull it apart in morning and check it for dust and make sure it is not turning on shaft.I think the encoder is in the back of the Z motor under the black cover, that's where i'll start.
    Thanks a bunch
