    Default Wine Stave Repurpose...Old Glory

I was looking to make some unique Christmas gifts and had seen these wine barrel flags so decided to give it a whirl. It took a little time getting the star pattern proportional but well worth the time. The stripes are alternating inside and outside of the wine stave....no paints used. Prior to carving the stars I painted the board....didn't want to risk getting paint down in the stars.

That is very unique. Have never seen any quite like it.

I picked them up at the local Woodcraft. They are a little pricy at $26 for three staves but I can get 2 ½ flags out of a pack. These are 12" x 6". I also picked up some whiskey staves too. With the staves being bowed and the angled lengthways, I ripped down with the bandsaw and ran through the planer to get the right thicknesses.
