When I had seen this project carved by some other folks I knew I had to try it.
The first one is carved on Eastern Mountain Cedar that is native to this area. I really like the way this wood turns out.
The lighter colored cross was carved on Western Red Cedar and it felt like balsa wood when I got done with it and I was afraid it would break so I mounted it to a slab of the native cedar which cleaned up very nicely
    .

I included a picture that shows what the slab looked like before I cleaned it up, the one on the left was cut from the same slab. This was from a bundle of "it is what it is" cedar I picked up at a lumber mill. I think after they drive on the stuff in the mud they label it as, "Mineral Stained".

Shout out to Floyd. Thanks for your help!

I can't keep those made fast enough. That eastern cedar is awesome with the dark purple it just pops when you clear coat it.
    Beautiful work!!!!!!!

I always make 10 or 15 for the craft shows. I sell them cheap $10 and just make them quick with pine and little sanding and a few coats of spray lacquer. I can always count on selling enough to pay for my booth fees or table fees. Every thing else is gravy.

I had a show today and the one on the Eastern Mtn. Cedar was gone fast, I had the other priced to high (probably because I want to keep it). I have to get more done for the next show. This is only my second craft show and I'm trying to figure out what works.

Here is the same pattern that I used in a slab of maple from a tree that I removed out of my yard a few years ago. Not sure if you ever seen this in an older post. I too love that pattern. Nice work.
