Diamond plate texture plus bonus pattern

I had an idea for a technique to make diamond plate texture that was quick and easy. And it worked! I believe it came out pretty good.

Man sign pattern added for fun and as an example on possible future uses for the texture. Play with height of the diamond plate pattern.

I started out looking at a couple of "standard" diamond plate patterns that I found on the web: http://www.kaneva.com/asset/assetDet...&communityId=0 and http://www.kaneva.com/asset/assetDet...autoPlay=false. Not being as creative as oscarl48, I often will do a Google image search when designing something to get ideas if not something that I can use directly. I believe that I used the Pattern Editor to smooth or blur to add some draft.



But in the end I used a custom pattern based on the Baleigh logo.

That is a cool website you listed.

The story is I went for a quick lunch at work and only had limited time so was just going to pick up a hot dog at the class 6 when I discovered there was a barbeque food truck in the parking lot. I ordered my brisket and while I was waiting was entranced by all the diamond plate they had decorating the truck. As I was waiting my mind starting playing on how I could recreate the pattern in 3d simply and quickly.

The pattern is composed on one plane. The edge is copied and shrunk to the diamond shape. The diamond is extruded. The plane is then subdivided once and then copied and moved over and up half way. I then applied an array modifier to copy the pattern 10 times. And done. Took maybe 5 minutes to make.
