bit not touching wood to carve

Need a little help here, no error messages, goes through the entire set up process then when it goes to carve the bit doesn't move down far enough to carve the wood, it just carves thin air. I have changed patterns same effect. my down pressure lbs on the bathroom scale is about 75. I am not sure what is wrong at this point. I ran the axis test and cut motor test all seems fine

What type of carving is this, pattern or V carve?

Does the bit touch all of the way down on the bit plate and on the board during the start up routine?

Is your project in a jig/sled?

you might have to change the FFC ribbon if this happening it happen to me hope this help

Do you have the heavy duty traction belts? Head pressure should be in 80 to 90 range.

Like Floyd said, make sure it touches the slap plate and material.

Sorry, for the late reply, I work out of town with some strange hours. yes heavy duty traction belts, I am going to clean the rails to see if I can get more pressure.

Is the point where it touches to find the surface higher than the area to be carved? For the surface, jog the area to be carved.
