Thread: Millenium Falcon clock

    Default Millenium Falcon clock

My nephew spotted this laser-etched clock:

I said we can do better than that. I found a 3D model online, imported it to pattern sculptor, altered the dish antenna a bit, and made a few other tweaks:

(I actually messed up the dish a bit, so I carved a separate one to salvage the project. The uploaded version should be good to go.)

This is a pierced carve using the 1/16" carving bit. I also used the 1/8" cutting bit to drill the hole for the shaft. There is a recess on the back for the clock mechanism - you'll need a long shaft mechanism. The clock is about 12" x 15". The project is Designer 1 and no additional software tools are needed. But it might be cool to carve a thicker one with the Designer 3 long bit.

I would have used longer hands if I had them.

Post a picture if you make one.

Great post. I am sure many will want to carve it. (One of my sons for example!)

Thank you this is great. I have a kid into star wars, so this may be something I can do for him.

Thanks all. BTW this carved in oak with no real chipout for me, but you might want to add Small or Medium Draft to the m_falcon pattern. Take a close look in Designer with draft applied to see if you want it.

Thanks. Might work for some of the grandkids at Christmas. I think I would use something like European Steamed Beach so the grain patters is less pronounced.
