Gentlemen, Thanks for the kind comments.

My daughter has been bugging me about darn spinners. She wants one so I am going to do an experiment this weekend and try to make her one. Her favorite animal is a koala so doing a koala spinner. I made the pattern so just have to see how it carves and how good it works.

I am going to call my first attempted prototype as a partial success. The spinners are normally 3-3.5 inches but that seemed small to me so made mine 4 inches. Well, there is a reason the spinners are 3-3.5 inches in diameter. Short fingers don't help. Also mine was too thick at .375 inches. The bearing is .275 high so that .1 inch is too much of a difference.
I think the best way to accomplish this is a custom jig to hold the .275-.3 thick lumber blank securely so its the right size to start with.
But a fun little prototype. Now that I see it can be done need to start designing some other cool designs. My other daughter wants a skull one now.

This is the pattern I am going with for the skull spinner. Pattern created at 3.25 in diameter and 2.75 thickness. I'll carve it at .3 so its a pierced and don't have to use the cutting bit.
Really clever work!! I like the design unique to the owner.
I was inspired by the recent thread on military pinup art. So decided to make one for my wife. Its based on a real pin art artwork from a WWII bomber but updated with the weapons that I used in my career. I am going to try to carve it tomorrow.
Finally got to the plaque. Super happy with it and the wife really liked it. Brownie points plus.
Carved in mahogany and its 13x13.
