Thread: Uses for Azobe

  1. Default Uses for Azobe

I was given a slab of Azobe yesterday, approximately 8" x 6' x 2" and HEAVY! I have no idea what I might do with it. It is an African wood that is chocolate brown with no real figure. When I Googled it, I learned that it is used for outdoor utility projects, including railroad sleepers. I thought about cutting boards, but I worry about toxicity. I also wondered if the CW would carve safely, as it is so dense and contains silica. Anyone carved on this before? Any project suggestions?

Just give it a try. Use an older bit and carve something. Try a rattleback.

It is a simple project which shows off the wood and is good for dense wood.
