Just finished this restoration project. The corbel on the right is the model, the one on the left is the restoration (light areas). Over time, pieces of the corbel were damaged and misplaced. I tried scanning the left one with the probe but it was damaging the finish/surface so I found someone with a laser scanner to capture the image, imported as an STL, and then did a mirror image carve. The small piece at the bottom corner was carved by hand, but the rose and leaves were carved by the CW. The dark wood is over 100 years old (so I'm told). This was part of a sign that the customer wanted carved with their name. I tried to use the original center piece but it was full of small nails/brads. I was afraid it would not only damage the machine and bit, but destroy the board. Instead I used an oak board and saved the original board, but it can't be used for much because of the nails.
