I checked the z gear and all teeth appear fine. how ever, I believe I am noticing it is more difficult to send it up then to send it down when the machine is off. down goes smooth however up seems to have a catch. How do I check the motor and or fsc cable? Also I have the new z pack.

    Great follow up....

Sometimes the screws on the Z roller Bearings are TOO LONG.... And they rub or touch the Y Truck...

What does it do under power?

Best test for FSC is replacement....

When I run the Z-Axis Test, I get a little motion then a fail. a little more motion in different places then others. I really appreciate you folks helping me trouble shoot this issue as you all are. To Clarify, I have the new version Z-motor I meant not that I have a new pack to install... hoping that won't be needed...

I am going with the dusty or loose encoder disk.

You need to take the cover off of the rear of the z motor and check out the disk. See Al's pictures (2,3, and 4) in the post: http://forum.carvewright.com/showthr...515#post258515

To update I opened the end and it was completely full of saw dust other then cleaning it out and making sure it turns when the z axis move is there anything else I need to look at while in here?

UPDATE: Because I have grown ever so slightly impatient I put it back together and tested the Z-axis while waiting for a response. It gave me a reading... Time to try this test again it looks like... YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
