I wonder if you could do something like this? Air carve just above the bat by touching the bit to a shim.

Imagine a machine where the jacking screw was removed and the raising and lowering was done with 4 jacking screws.... or a old radial arm saw arm.... A rotary feed through would be possible... A WAD.... Wild AL Dream....

I have thought the same.. maybe a 4th axis so you could rotate stock in the rotary and still get the lengths without having to tile for longer projects. Al you probably have enough parts laying around to Frankenstein one together.

Bergerud, Your diagram is exactly what i envisioned.
but woe is me as I really don't know how to create the file/image you just did.
The bat diameter is approx 2.5 inches..

What could I do for you to create the .mpc so I could do the carving.

    Super Thanks

Here is the mpc. See what you can do with it. I used extrude to make the fake bat, but, it could also be made into a pattern if you do not have the 3d tools.

Edit it with your logo and name. If you think I can help, re-post and I will give it a shot.

Default carve on a bat surface

Here is my idea to carving on a bat surface. I drew a crude sled with a bat in the sled. next I placed a rectangle region where you want the text,
place a curve area in the region, place the text and use conform. hide the region and I believe the text will still conform to the surface of the bat even thought the region is hid.
    something to think about.

another idea I just came up with, I did .5 depth to really show the curve in the region, maybe after the carving bit touches the surface and begins to carve stop the machine , remove the carving bit, let it finish the carving the region, then put in the "V" bit for the text, it will not know the region was not carve and it will conform to the surface of the bat. I hope.
