    Default spray stain

Has anyone used this Krylon Spray stain advocated by this video? It looks like a very nice solution for signs if it works as well as he says.

I am wondering if we stain and clear coat the plain wood, then carve it, could we then spray the carved area and wipe off the un-carved surface? Using this stuff in the carved areas probably won't bleed like regular oil stain.

Does look like something that may not cause the blotching problem that usually comes with pine, poplar etc. Definitely worth a look.

one thing to note that he doesn't mention in this video but does in other earlier videos is that he uses the marsh spray ink rather than spray paint for the black part of the signs because it doesn't bleed like paint.

We have to see if this spray stain bleeds. If not, you could stain your carved recon with a darker stain, sand the flat surface and do that a lighter stain. I have sprayed water base stain and it does not blotch, but then water base stain doesn't blotch as much as oil base anyway. The oil reacts with pockets of pitch I read in a wood working magazine.

Indeed it is an interesting video-- this could fix a problem that many of us have when wiping on stains and having the background color/ink rub off.

On a side note, the Marsh spray ink, is one of my favorites and I used it with several of my carvings. It works REALLY well for adding black color without bleeding into the pores of the wood.

    Here's a couple examples -

I hope this helps someone and thanks for the video,

Thanks for sharing a great YouTube link here on the Forum. As noted so often, the CW Forum teaches us something new every day and I too have got to try this Krylon spray stain. Can't believe I'd never come across it in the stores before. This did cost me an hour or so today as I went down the rabbit path of many of their other videos and learned several new techniques this morning. If you have not seen it, take the time to watch their long video on marketing ideas for new customers you may not have imagined or explored.

Again, thanks for sharing this with all of us Dave.
