Default AUGUST 2014 Project of the Month

    Hello,

This cute little clock was inspired by the old two-bell wind-up alarm clocks that many of us grew up with. This version features all wooden “bells” and clock case carved and cut out with your CarveWright machine. A battery operated clock insert provides the time display. The project uses the 1/16" Carving Bit and the 1/8" Cutting Bit.

The Old-Fashioned Alarm Clock project will make an interesting and fun decorative addition to a guest room side table, a bookshelf, a curio shelf or anywhere you please!

    The overall dimensions of the finished Alarm Clock project are approximately 4" W x 4.625" T x 2.5" D.

    Main items you will need:
    1) The Project Files (included):
    • Alarm_Clock.mpc

    2) Board with the following dimensions:
    0.75" x 7" x 16"

Do not use boards that are smaller than specified above unless using an appropriate jig.

    3) A 3¼" clock insert (we used model #15561 from http://www.klockit.com)

    4) Sandpaper, wood glue, epoxy

    5) ¼" (0.25) dia. wooden dowels and dowel plug buttons, or ¼" (0.25) end dia. x 1.125" ‘micro’ Shaker Pegs and/or 7/32" (0.2187) dia. x 1.25" wooden wheel axles (trim to 1.125" length), stain or paint and clear finish

NOTE: small wooden pegs and axles are available at Michael's Arts & Crafts or other arts and crafts stores, as well as online from
    http://www.larascraft.com/mall/Pegs.asp or http://www.caseyswood.com/

    6) A Dremel-type rotary tool with assorted sanding wheels and bits to sand small details and speed up preparation for finishing.

Apply your choice of finish. Here’s what I used:

    • Applied Rust-Oleum Golden Mahogany stain on the clock case

    • Left the legs, dowels and bells natural wood color

    • Applied several coats of Krylon clear acrylic spray on all parts

    Hi Mike.

Thanks! This was a fun project to do!

I believe it will become available about the same time as the POM is posted (first week of August).

Great project Michael! I don't want summer to go by too fast, but can't wait for August to carve this one. Thank you!
