    Default Create Tabs

I have spent some time looking for a tutorial on creating tabs. Never done it. So, I am using a sled. 1.5 inches thick. My project board is .75 inches thick. I made an outline and selecting the cutting bit. Then went in and made tabs. Seemed simple enough. However, I dont know what to do with the settings that pops up. Tab Height and width I got, but tab depth? Can someone break this down Barney style for me?

I think tab depth is just how far down the bottom of the tab is. Usually it would be set to the thickness of the board. That would put the tab starting from the bottom up.

Maybe this will help. A picture is worth a 1000 words.

EDIT: I included the .mpc that was used for the example. To see the tabs more clearly, create a pierced carve region a little larger than the board.

I don't think you can use tabs with the cutting bit. Tabs are used for pierced carvings.

Ok then, so if I am carving a 3/4 project on a sled, the simplest thing to do then is set the carve depth for .758 and add some tabs...

I don't think carve depth has much to do with it either. As DickB previously stated, the tabs function is meant for pierced carvings. You could use manual tabs by drawing a "0" depth carve region across the cut.

If you select "pierce", then unselect it then your depth is now .758, if using a .75 board. To me that makes more sense than going back and cutting it out. The lesser of two evils.

The tab depth is for use when the tabs are needed up from the bottom. For example.

Let me find a standard pattern that we all have. I will set it up like the one I have.
