Default Depth adjustment on a purchased pattern

    Good morning,

I purchased a pattern from the depot, the original depth was .221. While this works when the image is scaled to it's "original" size, when I resized to about half of that, and changed the depth settings to .05, it still carved at .22 (got to love that micrometer)

I did set the smaller version into a carve region of .25, but would have anticipated that the edge of the pattern would have fallen off or that the whole thing would have been .05 off the floor of the larger carve region (preferred). The small details in the body of the pattern were the same depth as the larger version.

There really was a question Can you adjust the depth of purchased patterns? If you can, did my carve region behind the pattern cause the whole thing to maintain the original depth - and how do I fix that? Pattern merge type, additive. In the preview, it looks shallower.

    I am running Designer 2

    Thanks in advance,

    Dian

If you have a carve region of .250 anything in the region will carve to that depth.

    Dian,

Think of it this way - the pattern depth states where you are setting the pattern bottom.
If you "float" a .1" deep pattern in a .25" carve-region, it will be "deeper" than you expect.

For simplicity, set the pattern depth to the carve-region depth and then adjust the "height".
In some patterns where you may want to make the center parts shallower, you might want
to mess with a depth setting that is different from carve-region.

    Attachment 67402Thanks guys, I am probably not asking the question correctly. The pattern is raised above the surface of the carve region. I want just a small change above the carve region, as the pattern is quite a bit sharper than I like, so I think a shorter height is what I would be looking for. I have attached a small part of the preview;

Set the bottom of the pattern the SAME as the carve region.
Adjust the height and watch the numbers on the lower-left
side of the screen while moving your cursor over the pattern.

The numbers are the X, Y, and Z values - attend to the third one.

Attachment 67403Again, thank you! I am now close to what I think I am trying to achieve Depth .25, height 20
So, is the Z value measured from the surface of the board? The .225 is the highest point in the scales - which, by the way dolphins don't have..one of the great mysteries of the seven seas.

Yes, a Z value of 0.250 would be a quarter inch below the top, 0.000 would be the top.
