If you use tape don't use a whole lot. Just in the area that is read by the infra red sensor.
Just as a side note ever since I stopped using tape along the edge of the board to contact the tracking sensor I have not had any problems with my sandpaper belts rolling under.

Too off the tape, gave it a try and it measured everything and started to carve. Go figure. Well at least my machine is clean and lubed now lol
