I just have gotten done with a carve I modified the ornamental box and used the ER-11 and the bits that bergerud had suggested on getting from DHgate I am very pleased with the bits that I had ordered I bought 15 of them for $2.00 apiece and I was a Little Leary of the bits being from china, I didn't leave the machine, I made pocket cuts and the cut outs. It's become my bit of choice....Thank you Bergerud...Job well done, Sir

What's the length of these bits? Are they 1/4 shank?

No, I have not tried those bits. They have 6 mm shanks. I have tried some like:

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/6-30H...601915315.html

which also have 6 mm shanks. They seemed to work ok but I think they require a little more power and they made that characteristic router bit whine.

I have 6 mm collets but the 6 mm shanks can also be held by the 1/4" ER collets.

(The tapered bit you were looking at Jerry has a cutting length of 30 mm and a ball diameter of 1 mm.)

I don't know what the length is, they are a little shorter and have a .125 shank and two fluted, being two fluted it really kicks out the sawdust I lighten up the passes on the pocket cuts was .2 depth and went .1 for two passes and went .25 on the cut outs.. I stand corrected it is 6m but it fits in a .125 collet

Not only does the two flute get the chips out better, it cuts better. There is no shrill like you get from having too many cutting edges going too slow. The shrill comes later when they get dull.

The cutting bits are 1/8" as you originally said. Jerry was talking about different carving bits. Those carving bits have a 6 mm shank which is just a little less than 1/4".

    Dan,

Can't beat the price on the links you posted, very inexpensive indeed.
I would like to add that Ron Justice sells small diameter bits at cwparts.com.
