This what I bought SKU : 0026-01-0003657 Deer Feeding. I will be engraving it on a board 4 feet long 12 inches wide and 1 inch thick I don't want the carving to deep lets say 1/4 inch deep, how will it know the high points and all the trees and the landscape or will the machine know.
The default pattern bit is the 1/16" tapered ball nose bit. This bit is automatically assigned by the software for all patterns. You do not need to tell it what bit to use for the patterns. If you view the "board settings" you will see what bit options are available. Once assigned it is the bit used for the full project, not individual items/patterns on the board.

Yes you will need to set the depth and height for the patterns you place on the project board. Each pattern has it's own default depth settings and most of the time they are not what you want for your project.

To view what the pattern setting are, once place on the board you can see the settings by selecting them and viewing in the tool bar.

You should spend some time viewing the software tutorials http://www.carvewright.com/support-p...are-tutorials/

Another way that it seems no one mentions is to click (release LMB) on the pattern in favorites on right side. Now click on the board, the pattern will be laid down where ever you click on the board. I like this method better than the click and drag. Where the cross hairs of your cursor is, will be the center of the pattern as it is placed on the board.
Using Designer 1.187, STL importer, Center line, conforming vectors, scanning probe/PE, and the ROCK chuck.
