Cut path

Ok this seems like a dumb question, but I was always told there are no dumb questions so I'm going to ask it anyway. See the attached pattern. I drew the top half then mirrored it, and connected all the little parts together. Why can't I make this a cut path? Am I missing something?

Mirror does not work. The parts are not really connected together. Turn off the mirror. Copy, paste, flip, and then connect.
