Update on twins, they will be arriving Oct. 25. There mother has requested toy boxes. Anyone have ideas for toy boxes? No hurry, as my machine is down right now.

Dan...we are expecting our first grand child on Oct 25 also...sonogram says its a boy so the toy chest is going to be a "pirate chest". Since I figure I've got until the first birthday I'm just collecting patterns for now....pirate ships, skull and X bones, sword, etc...and thinking of the design....hope to carve something on each piece. If it were a girl (maybe for future reference) it would be a "princess chest"...tiaras, jewels, etc...we will see how crazy it gets, but I saw an elaborately carved16th century strong box on TV with a fake key and a "hidden" key so who knows...
OK...as of 1:30Pm October 20, 2013 I am officially a grandpa...1 year until the birthday so the clock is ticking on the pirate chest/toy chest....
I've been away for a while. Congratulations Grandpa. Hope you find a design, and I know you'll enjoy every minute of it.

A friend of mine just finished making a tack box for his daughter who raises horse. This would make a great toy box with removable trays
and boxes. You could also use your CW to carve their names and the front or top. You should be able to get copies of plans online with no
problems. Just take the dimensions and reduce the size to something around 24" x 18" x 18". This is not his chest, but one I found online
which is very close to his.
I like the toy box pictured but have some concerns.
Little fingers get hurt with lid supports like the one shown.
Please consider supports similar to ones in this link.
My grandchildren are all in their twenties at this time
so it has been awhile since I made a toy box.
However, I need to make another one for my great granddaughter!

I like the lid support you showed. You do need to calculate the weight of your lid as these come in different spring tensions. They are also available in right, left and center styles, and available at Lowe's for under $4.00.
