After you down loaded the patterns did you double click on them to bring them into designer? If so they should be in your pattern list (pattern tool).

Welcome. It takes a little practice but you will love it.
As all have said "Welcome to the Forum family." We're all here to help and answer questions any time we can. If you do a simple file search using Windows Explorer and the key "*.PTN" you should be able to find where your activated patterns were saved. I make it a habit to save my pattern files and projects (.MPC) in my Documents directory in a sub-directory called CarveWright Data. Makes it much easier to backup and avoids any loss if and when the CW software is re-installed or upgraded.
You're going to really enjoy the CW like all of us as you learn its features. By the way, what part of Maine? (from a summertime resident of a Penobscot Bay island)

Make a habit of saving your purchased patterns, fonts, and projects in a directory outside of CarveWright. Some updates cause stuff to go missing... Plus it will be easier to find stuff...
Since you know the Laser and most likely Corel then the DXF importer might be a good future purchase.
I cut my FRP for Sublimation on my CW with a Carrier Board. There is a trick... Lie to the machine... tell it you are going to load a 1/4 inch bull nose and this locks a vector cut into it's slowest feed rate but actually install a 1/16th End Mill. I use one cut in half from my Star 912 Engraver.

hello , i just bought this machine this week. sorry not sure where to ask this or where to see if its been discussed. i cant figure how to import a picture of my daughter without her looking like a skeleton. any advice? thanks
Bottoms up! and welcome.
Most times trying to carve a picture in wood can be tricky since the software works with the 256 different levels of gray for the carving depths. A picture with a lot of different colors/shades will have a lot of high/low spots that will look all poked up. The truly best way to carve an image is using either cast acrylic or corian to make a back lighted image or lithophane.

Several have done some photo carvings in wood though with some good results.

Make sure you read/view the information in the "support" area on the main CarveWright site. Lots of great helpful information.. http://www.carvewright.com/support-page/
