Will someone explain how to make rounded edges on a rectangular or square carve, such as a box top, using the carving bit rather than a router bit? I would like to be able to select my own amount of "round." Thanks for any help.

If you can use a router bit to create the shape you want, then you can save it as a pattern. Then it will be carved instead of routed. Otherwise, without the 3D tools, it is not so easy.

Thanks for your response. I have done the "Spring Wreath" project several times and the "rounding" of the banner on that project is what I'm looking for. On that one the rounding doesn't go all the way around it so a rout wouldn't work.
after thinking about your comment a while, the router bit and pattern might just do what I'm wanting to do. I'm giving it a try tomorrow. Thanks again for easing the brain cramp.

I recently got the 3D tools and am still learning them, so I thought I would try to use them to make a couple of patterns to cut roundovers on rectangles or squares. The idea is to place the "corner" pattern in the corners of the square or rectangle, place the "roundover" pattern on the sides, stretching or shrinking the length of the "roundover" as needed. I think there are some bugs here. After I created and initially placed the patterns, they appeared to do what I want. But when I manipulate the patterns, such as rotating the roundover pattern 90 degrees, undesired artifacts show up. Remove the rectangle to see what I mean. The components don't match up as well as expected either.

Is this what you are looking for?
Edit:
I rounded the corners before applying the sweep on the 2nd example

Nicely done Steve. I'm impressed and I think this should answer what was requested.

Here is the same shape with .75 degree radius corners. When I saved it as a pattern the center came out as raised so I added the horizontal line at the top edge from the arc to just past the center (red line) .
Edit: Thanks Capt. Bruce
