If you have the "chops" to make the right series of sliced patterns, yes. It would be a two-sided carve, as the angles of the sliced edges would vary depending on each slice location in the bowl.
Shallow dishes are much are simpler, but are made in the same principle. Take a look at my Autumn Leaf dishes in the Pattern Store for an example.

Thanks for responding. I've made quite a few of the types of shallow bowls like you describe. I usually use CorelDraw to create the pattern. I'd like to make something deeper.
